Another View with Summer Momentos

The final painting of the summer was created after insanely busy months of studio time to create and complete the three large commissions, pictured below:

It was a busy Summer in my studio with these three large commissions, painted and delivered. When not in the studio I spent hours on the lake in my kayak, rowing shell and on the SUP which moved me to compose and create one last Lake Tahoe Boulder painting before embracing Fall.

Painted during Fall 2018, Another View with Summer Momentos (48x48), captures lowering water levels at Lake Tahoe, crystal clear water ( the lake is at its clearest during Fall ), shimmering reflections, and light hitting these massive boulders which are located off the Crystal Bay Point, North Lake Tahoe. This is another and different view of a 'caught' rock I have represented in many paintings, nature's play, shown with the human play of a precariously stacked cairn.

Summer's End

As Summer Comes To An End

The end of summer?  Seems like it flew by, and now here we are with cooler temperatures and shorter days.  There is a new, blank canvas on my easel that will receive the last painting of summer, inspired by hours weaving through massive boulders on my paddle board.  Here are a few photos snapped from the board....

The transition from the dry, above the surface area of the rock, to the portion underwater with all the constantly moving patterns of light has captured and is holding my attention. Let's see how this translates to the blank canvas.

Installation Day

As Promised

The triptych, Crystal Clarity, was installed today.

It is hanging in a beautiful lake front home.

Crystal Clarity is a dramatic presentation of Lake Tahoe Boulders, which depicts above and below the water surface.

At 48" x 120 " it makes a bold statement.

Commissions

Studio Work Update.

It's crazy smokey outside today (from the Ferguson Fire outside Yosemite), so it's a good time to sit at the computer, and that's  something I have not had much time to do in the last two months.  Spending hours, days, weeks in the studio working on a large triptych has been consuming. Scroll down for a photo essay showing some of the progress from beginning to end.

This photo is a bit funky becuase it was taken from an odd angle making the canvases look like they are not aligned properly.  It's an illusion.  When the work is installed I will take another photo and post it.

This triptych is complete, sitting in my studio, ready for installation.  It is a powerful compilation of three boulder groupings off the Crystal Bay Point in Lake Tahoe.  

And now,  because it is so horribly smokey outside, I will go back into the studio to begin the next commission. That's the update for now. Let's hope the fire fighters can can get some containment going on this fire.

Lake Tahoe Rocks

Sketches for

Lately studio work has consisted of working on proposals for commissions.  Three projects are accepted and will now be painted.  Thought you would like to see the sketches.

This triptych will be composed of three canvases.  The middle will be 48 x 60 with the two flanking at 48 x 27.

End of Summer, New Beginnings.

And Completed Painting

Keyhole

Titled:  Keyhole, this painting came off the easel last week and is currently being shown at Village Interiors in Incline Village, Nevada.  Inspired by the high water level at Lake Tahoe this summer and an unusually spectacular boulder group off the Crystal Bay Point, North Tahoe, it's a dramatic composition which makes a powerful statement about the water level and the massive boulders that decorate the shore of this magnificent lake.

And yes, it is the end of summer and as the seasons change it is time for new beginnings and changing routines.  It will be interesting so see how this affects my studio work.

Eclipse

The Eclipse is Over

What better place to view the eclipse than from the shimmering surface of Lake Tahoe, hovering over the deepest part of the lake?  Kayaking among the rocks while the moon's shadow ate at the sun was a unique experience. The day became a bit dimmer and a bit cooler as the shadow grew, and as it receded the warmth and light returned to normal.  It was a celebratory paddle among the majestic Tahoe boulders.  

And then it was back into the studio.  Last week, while live painting at Spirit Gallery in Truckee I started a new canvas.

The painting is now back in my studio where it will be completed.   This is a composition that shows above and below the surface of the crystal clear Tahoe water.  After today's eclipse viewing (it was inspiring) I am back in the studio working with the pigments to bring the under water area to life.

Summer

Summer Is FLYING By...

It's August, but you already know that. And it isn't even the first week anymore. This is the second week of August!!!  How can that be?  Seems like the summer is flapping it's wings furiously and flying at record speed.

I am happy to report that I believe I am ready to sign this painting (image above) and remove it from the easel, after two months of work. That means I will start another and be posting images of inspiration and progress.  And yes, I do know the subject matter of the next painting.  I am quite intrigued with one particular section of the painting shown above and will create a smaller work focusing on the one area, but it will have a different twist.

I am also preparing for a 'Meet The Artist' painting demonstration at Spirit Gallery in Truckee, CA on Thursday, August 17.  If you are close by, I hope you will stop in to chat, watch and see a variety of my work not usually shown at the gallery.
